The Smart Client provides a smart Windows interface to the IDR, integrating features like multiple forms, familiar controls, and integration
to other Windows applications like Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, GIS
programs, etc. This interface connects to the IDR through HTTPS and can optionally
implement X.509 digital certificates for two-factor authentication. It provides
advanced data collection components, system administration tools, outbreak management,
and sophisticated reporting features. Additionally, this interface is a hybrid
interface that utilizes the standard reports and case investigation forms also
presented to the user in Web CMR. This seamless correspondence between the two
environments simplifies training and speeds user adoption.
